ONE’S-SELF I sing—a simple, separate Person;
Yet utter the word Democratic, the word En-masse.
Of Physiology from top to toe I sing;
Not physiognomy alone, nor
ain alone, is worthy for the muse—I say the Form complete is worthier far;
The Female equally with the male I sing.
Of Life immense in passion, pulse, and power,
Cheerful—for freest action form’d, under the laws divine,
The Modern Man I sing.

自我之歌
自我之歌——歌唱一个个简单独立的人;
虽然还说着平等和统一。
而我却从头至尾地歌唱自然;
不仅相貌、头脑、灵感值得歌唱;
我更愿歌唱整个形体。
我歌唱男女的平等。
我歌唱——
生活中的无限激情;
我歌唱——
生命的搏动和力量;
也为在那神的意志下最为自由的行为而欢愉,

注:第一次翻译外国诗,或多或少有些缺陷。请大家体谅。
心得:Democratic这个词义为“民主”,个人觉得“民族”含有政治色彩,所以译成“平等”。Physiology这个词义为“生理学”,个人觉得这个专业性太强,尤为诗的美感,所以译成“自然”。
